Galerie U Andělíčka has acquired an exclusive selection of original works by Jiří Vlach for sale.

About the artist

Jiří Vlach is a self-taught painter, printmaker and illustrator and a member of the Union of Visual Artists. He was born in Pilsen in 1954.

His printmaking focuses on a combination of etching and aquatint and on ex libris. He has created more than seventy bookplates, mostly for leading European collectors. His prints combine figures and faces with richly decorative vegetation and human artefacts.

His paintings and drawings explore symbolism through a surrealist approach, inspired by dreams and imagination. He illustrated the psychological novella Čekání na Kateřinu (Waiting for Kateřina), published in 2001 and written by Prof. MUDr. Zdenka Ulčová-Gallová, DrSc. His painting of Jesus Christ was ceremonially blessed and adorns a church interior in Germany.

His work has admirers at home and in many countries around the world. Awards from 1983–1988 include a peace prize in Sint-Niklaas, Belgium, a gallery prize in Bormio, Italy, second place in Rawicz, Poland, and honourable mentions in Łódź, Malbork and Toronto.

„I would like people to recognise my artistic signature even without a signature. I cannot express my aim better in words. If I achieve it, it will be there to read in my paintings.“
